This three color hand screen printed yardage was inspired by Otomi fabric from Central Mexico, along with my personal German heritage. While initially being inspired by the Mexican textiles in terms of the inclusion of animals native to a specific region, I allowed this fabric to relate to me more directly and choose animals that reside in the Black Forrest in Germany, where my family is from. I also altered the composition of traditional Otomi fabric and allowed my love for collage and abstract shapes to show through in layering the shapes with the animals.
